Bath Culture Shock (Part 2)

Culture buzz continues in part 2 of our Bath Culture Shock series as Natalia checks out the vibrant art scene with the re-opening of Holburne Museum.

The Holburne museum re-opened in May boasting a fine new architectural build and a brilliant exhibition showcasing Peter Blake’s collections that have recently exhibited in London as part of the Museum of Everything. This has been a long awaited launch of the Holburne collection and as much as we are all excited about the re-hang and the rather more contemporary and visually innovative way of displaying the collection, the talk of the town has been the new extension on the back of the building. Designed by Eric Parry, it seems that it has had to take a lot of persuading to manage to finalise the plans and build the structure that does not fit into usual Bath stone regulations. But instead the new build is rather lavishly constructed out of glass and ceramic. Having at first hesitated over this new build I have found myself intrigued by it and now think that it is in fact a brilliant architectural monument that deserves every right to stand next to some of Baths most famous architecture.

The Holburne Museum is a definite must see, especially as it hasn’t been accessible for three years!
