SoBe recommends…. Top 5 things to do on your Bank Holiday

The August bank holiday is fast approaching to mark the end of the summer period. But don’t let our current bout of wet weather dampen your spirits! Take time-out to make the most of your time-off. Below are our top 5 things for you to do on your bank holiday.

1)      Notting Hill Carnival

The Notting Hill Carnival is one of the most colourful and best known street celebrations, taking place in West London over the August bank holiday weekend. If you want to spend your long weekend with your jaw on the floor, then go to check out the beglittered floats and dancers, stalls of jerk chicken and booming Caribbean beats.

2)      Get a Geisha Facial

Step into Victoria Beckham’s stilettos (or David’s football boots) and embrace the latest beauty treatment: nightingale’s excrement. Yes we mean bird poo. Not only will this latest beauty treatment leave you with perfectly exfoliated skin, it will also give you a considerably lighter wallet with treatment at London’s Hari’s starting at £135.

3)      Surf

Fistral beach is set to be one of the hotspots of Augusts’ long weekend as it plays host to the British Surf Championships. As well as throngs of surfing spectators, those set to invade the sleepy Cornish village are Russell Winter (former European champion), Alan Stokes (UK tour champion) and Toby Donachie (former British champion).

4)      Classy Cabaret

London’s cabaret scene is as strong as ever, with an increasing number of underground venues spreading themselves through the capitals foundations. Get down to Cafe de Paris on the Saturday night of the bank holiday for a particularly raucous night. Raucous does not mean low-quality however as the acts have an outstanding ability to get the crowds ‘up for it’!

5)      Fall in Love with lace

The dress that made jaws drop on the day of the Royal wedding is back to captivate the nation once again.  Now that the frenzied queues are reducing, August is the perfect month to catch a glimpse of the Duchess of Cambridge’s iconic gown up close. If not out of love for the beautiful Kate herself, then at least go to admire the stunning design work by the late, great Alexander McQueen.
