SoBe recommends…. Halloween Movie Marathon

Whether you see it as a trick or a treat, there’s certainly no escaping it. October 31st is fast creeping up on us! Halloween boasts a plethora of scary movies to boot, and our pick of the best below will cater for all thrill seekers. So turn of the lights and hold on tight, with this movie marathon you’re in for the fright of your life.

One of the most classic horror movies out there, Poltergeist is likely to leave many a sleepless night in its wake. Starring Craig T Nelson, it follows the terrifying adventure of a family trying to escape a haunted house with their nerves and sanity all intact. Not recommended for the faint hearted!

Sharing the crown with Poltergeist for scariest movie is The Exorcist. Like a good wine, this film has aged well as it’s been terrifying teenagers since 1973.  This sensational horror details a story of devil possession and the subsequent exorcism of demonic spirits from a young, seemingly innocent, little girl. If this isn’t enough to make your toes tingle, then we don’t know what is!

“In October of 1994, three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland while shooting a documentary. A year later their footage was found” announces the ominous title card. Cleverly presented as a faux-documentary, you can’t help but fall head over heels into a false sense of reality, making every 82 minutes of it undeniably tense.

Released in 2007, this is the most recent blockbuster on our list. Made for peanuts, Paranormal Activity is one of the most profitable movies ever made and is an affirmative must-see on Halloween. Written and directed by the talented Oren Peli, the story centres on a young couple haunted by a supernatural presence in their home. Watch if you dare….

“Here’s Johnny” are two words that have the power to spook the burliest of men. Often considered as Jack Nicholson’s finest role, he portrays a family man who’s behaviour is fast spiralling out of control as he loses his mind and goes on what one can only describe as a ‘killing spree’.  This outrageous psychological thriller makes for pretty haunting viewing. You have been warned….
